Family Adventure in Chamonix
For the families who crave some adventure on their summer holidays then we’d suggest you head to Chamonix for a high altitude action-packed week with the spectacular Mont Blanc as your scenic backdrop. You’ll spend your time in beautiful and comfortably furnished lodges in and around Chamonix with a small group of other families. Not for the fainthearted your time will be spent trekking the Grand Balcon Nord to the Mer de Glace, the largest glacier in the Alps, white water rafting and taking a funicular railway to Emosson Dam. You’ll experience ziplining, canyoning, and you can even venture out husky sledding. There will also be some down time where you can meander through the pretty streets of Chamonix and taste some of the local delights or just take in the spectacular views.
The trips are ideally put together with two age groups of children in mind from 8-11, and 12-16 and each have their own highlights, as detailed, keeping the animal parks for the younger children and the canyoning for the older ones. Prices start from £995 and this trip only runs in the summer months.
Trip Itinerary
Day 1: Rendezvous at Yeti Lodge in Argentiere (altitude 1240m / 4068 ft.), KE Family Land Only package services begin with evening briefing and dinner. Lodge.
Day 2: (8 - 11 years) Transfer by cable car and short walk to Vallorcine where we meet our guide for rock climbing. (12 - 16 years) Cable car ride to the Aiguille du Midi 3842m. for spectacular views of the Alps. Descend to Plan de l'Aiguille and trek the famous Grand Balcon Nord to the Mer de Glace.
Day 3: (8 - 11 years) Cable car ride to the Aguille du Midi for spectacular views of the Alps. Rafing in the afternoon through the centre of Chamonix. (12 - 16 years) In the morning choose from 'hydrospeed' swimming or white water rafting. In the afternoon we have a family bike ride around the valley.
Day 4: (8 - 11 years) We travel into Switzerland and walk an interpretive forest trail. After lunch we descend to Les Marecottes and the afternoon is free for swimming in the pool or to visit the animal park. (12 - 16 years) We take the funicular railway to Emosson Dam at 1932m. and walk to Chalet Loriaz 2020m. We descend through the pine forests to Vallorcine.
Day 5: (8 - 11 years) Funicula train ride to Montenvers and the famous Mer de Glace. Return to Chamonix for lunch. Hire bikes and cycle on some of Chamonix's maze of trails. (12 - 16 years) Canyoning in the morning. Lunch in one of the town's many cafe's with the afternoon free for you to decide, many activities are available.
Day 6: (8 - 11 years) Experience Acrobatic Island in Contamines travelling from tree to tree on ziplines through the forest (height limit 1m). After lunch options of walking, archery, donkey rides or visiting the husky dogs. (12 - 16 years) We start a 2 day adventure following part of the 'Tour du Mont Blanc'. Tonight we stay in a mountain hut.
Day 7: (8-11 years) We take the cable car to Flegere and walk to Lac Blanc with stunning views of Mont Blanc. Return to the Lodge for a celebratory final dinner. (12 - 16 years) Breakfast in the mountain hut, then walk down through the forest to Les Contamines. We visit the Adventure Park and 'acrobatic Island' before returning to the Lodge for a celebratory final dinner.
Day 8: Breakfast with the group before you fly home, or opt to spend some time in this beautiful region just relaxing.
