Canadian Rockies Family Adventure

Canada and British Columbia has much to offer the adventure seeker from pristine mountains, huge glaciers, turquoise glacial lakes, raging rivers, cosmopolitan cities and a wild wooded coastline.

Day 1 Fly from Heathrow to Calgary with Air Canada. On arrival in Calgary, pick up hire car and drive up to Banff. The distance is approx 80 miles.
Overnight in Banff for two nights

Day 2 Day at leisure. The town itself has plenty of shops and restaurants and is small enough to walk around and it is surrounded by mountains. Active options for Banff include walking, horse riding, mountain biking, canoeing and rafting. Alternatively, how about a full day hike to Larch Valley, one of the more popular trips from Banff

Day 3 Drive to the Yoho National Park 25 miles west of Lake Louise.(46 mles from Banff). Visit the Icefield Parkway en route to walk on glaciers
Stay for three nights at the Emerald Lake Lodge

Days 4 - 5 Days at leisure, some of the activities available are white water rafting, hiking, fishing or canoeing. There are several walking trails you can follow or you can have your own guide. You can white water raft down the Kicking Horse River, or explore the Takakkaw Falls, Canada’s second tallest waterfall.

Day 6 Continue onto Jasper, this is about 155 miles

Day 7 Day at leisure to explore Jasper, possibly visiting one of the many lakes surrounding Jasper, or relaxing in town

Day 8 Board the Rocky Mountaineer in the morning. This departs Jasper in the morning and you travel over the Yellowhead Pass and past Pyramid Falls and Mount Robson, the highest peak in the Rockies. You will be served meals on board. In the afternoon, you will arrive in Kamloops where you will be transferred to your accommodation.

Day 9 Early morning transfer back to the train to continue onto Vancouver admiring Thompson and Fraser Canyons en route.

Day 10 Day at leisure. Vancouver is a compact city so easy to explore on foot or you can hire bikes and cycle around Stanley Park with its ancient cedars and toem poles.

Day 11 Pick up car hire and travel over to Vancouver Island and drive to Tofino. This will be a long day, taking the ferry from Vancouver Horse Shoe Bay to Nanaimo, and then drive to the other side of the island which is approximately 200km.
The small town of Tofino lies at the centre of Clayoquot Sound and has lovely sandy beaches on the Pacific and towering rainforests inland. There’s an abundance of activities to enjoy during your stay ranging from whale watching to hiking, as well as fishing and kayaking.

Days 12-14 Days at leisure

Day 15 Drive back to Nanaimo for ferry back to Vancouver, or alternatively, there is the option of taking a float plane back to Vancouver, but this is expensive.
Although you could go straight to the airport for your flight home, a final night in Vancouver might be advised so you don’t have to rush back
