Mount Kinabulu is a spectacular climb, and is well recommended for the more adventurous. It’s suitable for children and anyone with a decent level of fitness.
The Kinabulu climb is a 3 day, 2 night trip. The trip will begin with a drive along the Crocker range; a soak in the Poring Hot Springs and an opportunity to brave the 41m high Canopy walkway. Stop at Nabulu market to hobnob with the indigenous Dusun people and pick up handicrafts. On arrival into Park Kinabulu, at the mountain base, a park ranger will be available for guided walks and information about the flora and fauna in the park. Alternatively, there are a number of walking trails which can be explored solo. The first evening is spent in basic accommodation at the park, and the next day the climb begins.
A mountain guide will be there to support and guide throughout the climb, so no need to worry about getting lost. The first day is 4-5 hours climbing with a break for lunch, to take pictures and enjoy the views. We recommend having a private guide to ensure there are opportunities to take photographs and explore at your own pace. It is an early night at the Laban Rata guest house this evening, for a 2am start the following morning. The last 4 hours of the climb to the summit will be to reach the summit for sunrise, a pretty spectacular finale to the climb, and the light at this time of day will be magical.
Included in your climb is all meals, a guide, accommodation and entrance fees. The climb starts at £380pp based on two people sharing. Dependant on exchange rate. The best time to travel is May - October and the climb is subject to weather conditions on the day.
