Kurland Estate, Plettenberg Bay
The Kurland Estate is an impressive 700 hectare Polo Estate, with a luxurious homestead, a few stylish Dutch Gabled buildings, set around a central pool area, manicured rose gardens, private terraces and courtyards complete with fountains and ornate candelabras.
Kurland is a luxury family hotel and a variety of imaginative activities has been specifically tailored to children of all ages. With only 12 suites, the emphasis here is really on service, and creating a safe, personal family experience. Loft rooms in the suites come complete with their own play area, toys and en suite bathrooms; experienced nannies, a private playroom, a children’s dining conservatory and if the children are a little older and would like to stay up for supper with mum and dad there is even a chef’s table in the kitchen that you can eat together at asa family. The ethos at the Kurland ensures that parents can relax in the knowledge that their children are well looked after in a safe environment. Adults can spend time indulging in the luxury spa, and for the active families there is the chance to hike, cycle and get out fishing.
In the local area The Elephant Sanctuary is a family orientated operation where you’ll not only learn a lot about elephants, but also get to touch, feel, feed, walk trunk-in-hand and even ride these magnificent animals. Monkeyland primate sanctuary and its neighbour, the Birds of Eden– the biggest single free flight aviary in the World, Tree canopy tours, a Puzzle Park, snake sanctuary and Wildlife Awareness centre are just some of the attractions in the area. While, further afield, boat rides, beaches and nature walks are on offer. The Estate is within close reach of the Tsitsikamma Nature Reserve where the picturesque Storms River should not be missed for a spot of lunch and a swim.
