La Folie Lodge, Dong Daeng Island
Set on the tiny Don Daeng Island in the middle of the Mekong River, La Folie Lodge is a charming property in the heart of Southern Laos. Surrounded by lush gardens and with views of the river and distant mountains, travellers seeking solitude and tranquility will love La Folie. Don Daeng is just a short boat ride away from the famous Wat Phou temple, a UNESCO heritage site which rises dramatically over three terraced levels. The Lodge is also a short drive from the cool highlands of the Bolevan Plataeu, the tranquil 4000 Islands, and the Cambodian border. As the only hotel in the area with regular electricity, La Folie is a great base from which to explore Southern Laos.
The 24 units are laid out across the 12 wooden bungalows in the lush landscaped garden. The room interiors are tastefully designed in traditional Lao style with ample rosewood furnishings and local materials. All rooms boast of private balconies that open into striking vistas of the Mekong and rolling mountains. For guests who wish to venture into the rustic countryside, they can do so on foot or peddle the bikes provided by the lodge.
