Lankayan Island, Borneo

Lankayan Island is an exhilarating 90 minutes speedboat journey away from the city of Sandakan (or a 25 minute helicopter ride if you’re feeling flush). The journey will be blissful, the wind in your hair and the Malaysian sun beating down, taking you out to an island paradise. You’ll see a number of other islands in the midst, and be whisked right past them as this island really is a remote dream. With only 23 wooden beachfront chalets on the island, and snorkelling right off the beach it is a beautiful break for honeymooners to hide away, or for families to escape modernity and get back to nature. Lankayan Island is officially a marine protected area and underwater wildlife spotting opportunities are spectacular. From March to May, you have the chance to dive with the magnificent gentle giant, the Whale Shark as they migrate past. From June- September guests will have the chance to see Green Turtle and Hawksbill Turtle nesting, hatching and making their first expedition out to  sea. Situated within Sea Turtle corridor, turtles are seen whilst snorkeling and diving throught the year. World renowned dive sites are only minutes away from the beach, so for the avid diver, this is a beautiful spot.

Lankayan Island is currently finishing its refurbishment of its chalets, and of the restaurant, so summer of 2011 will be a great time to visit. As you can imagine, it gets booked up pretty quickly, so if you are interested in our Borneo itinerary then please call us on 0207 359 393 or email. March – October is the best time to visit.
