Sepilok Nature Reserve and Resort

Sepilok Nature Reserve looks after Northern Borneo’s Orangutans and is an amazing place to get close to these magnificent creatures first hand. There are around 60-80 Orangutans living freely within Sepilok, occasionally with sadly orphaned Orangutan youngsters joining them, and along with new additions that have been born on the reserve. As well as Orangutans there are also Sun Bears, Gibbons Sumatran Rhinos and the occasional injured Elephant being looked after in Sepilok. The reserve is made up of 43 square kilometres of protected land and there are a number of walkways that visitors can explore to hopefully see the Orangutans in the wild and trees. If you have not been successful spotting them as you erxplore, then not to worry, they all come down for feeding times in the mornings.

In our suggested Borneo itinerary, we have a morning visit here, however if you would like to stay longer there is the Sepilok Nature Resort which is within walking distance of the reserve. The accommodation is basic but clean and comfortable in a number of wooden bungalows and chalets connected by wooden walkways and it’s a beautiful place to spend the night if you would like more time exploring Sepilok Nature reserve.
