Our special places

Andalucia is the area that first comes to mind when people think of Spain, but although it includes the crowded Costa del Sol and images of English expats, you can quickly be transported to another land of dramatic mountains, Moorish cities and castles, Pueblos Blancos and vast beaches once you get to the wheel of your hire car.
Just 45 minutes from Malaga and you reach Alora and that familiar rural landscape of hills and rocky outcrops where we have been sending people for many years now. Staying at the smart, farmhouse hotel of Cortijo Valverde provides the ideal base for those just wanting to relax in this part of Andalucia, or to take part in the many activities and explorations on offer.
Three nights here and it’s time to drive an hour and a half north to Cordoba – where the opportunity to see the Great Mosque would be quite enough, let alone one of the loveliest medieval quarters in Europe. Here the Hospes Palacio Del Bailio is a very special place to stay for a couple of nights, itself dating from the 16th-century, but combining its heritage with modern architecture and décor. We’ll save Andalucia’s flamboyant capital, Seville, for another day, and ideally a short break when the city explodes into life at the Spring Feria. But you can visit the city from the wonderful cortijo-style hotel an hour south of the city, the Hacienda San Rafael. From the moment you arrive here after the two hour drive from Cordoba, you will be treated as someone special, as are all guests who choose to enjoy the fabulous deluxe rooms, relax by the pool in the spacious gardens, and appreciate the fine food of this very smart former farm in the plains.
Two nights here is not enough but it was the owners of the Hacienda who tipped us off to the Casa La Siesta, not much more than an hour further south and close to the white hilltop town of Vejer de la Frontera with the wild beaches of Trafalgar a few kilometres away. Hosts Lee Thornley and Amelia Gordon provide a high level of service and food that matches the contemporary comfort of this stylishly rebuilt farmhouse with its infinity pool and seven luxurious bedrooms. Our three night stay here impressed us with the hard work that has gone into getting the balance of unforced hospitality and laid back comfort just right. So much so that you’ll find it hard to swap your siesta for a return to the real world.
A ten night fly drive staying at these hotels, with flights into Malaga and back from Seville with car hire for the duration, costs from £920.00 per person. Please email, or call 0207 359 3938 for us to tailor make your trip.
