Our special places

The Californian coast is one of life’s essential drives, so we’ve put together the perfect itinerary for one of the world’s most iconic trips. We’ll hire you a convertible, check you into the best hotels, and divulge to you our favourite places.
Start in gritty San Diego, famed for its live music scene and fantastic Mexican food. The W San Diego is the most stylish place to stay on the outskirts of vibrant Gaslamp district with its historic streets and jazz bars.
Santa Monica is a buzzing upmarket suburb with an old fashioned boardwalk and pier. It is in easy proximity of the city of Los Angeles so you can visit the infamous Hollywood Blvd, shop on Rodeo drive and head up to the Hollywood Hills to marvel at where the rich and famous live. Make sure you enjoy a drink at the Mondrian sky bar at sunset with LA’s beautiful people. For a great alternative shopping location head for Melrose with its vast array of independent boutiques and vintage shops. We recommend the sleek beachside property, the Viceroy for three nights.
The Big Sur is calling for rugged cliff and costal scenery, so start early for the drive up to the romantic Post Ranch Inn for the next two nights. Set dramatically on the cliffs the views are immense. The walks around the Inn are great for outdoor lovers and the quaint town of Carmel is great to explore with its chi-chi shops and host of upmarket restaurants, bars, art galleries and cafes.
Onwards and upwards for San Francisco to spend three nights in fashionable Clift Hotel. At the weekend the queues go around the block for the opulent Redwood bar but hotel guests are offered easy entry, so get there early, grab a couch and enjoy. During the day hang out in the coffee houses of Haight Ashbury, eat authentic Chinese food in China Town, ride the cable cars from Nob Hill to Fisherman’s Wharf and then hire a bike and cycle through Golden Gate Park to the bridge itself.
No trip to California would be complete without a trip to the famous vineyards of Napa. Maybe it’s because we’re all bookworms here at Real Holidays, with a penchant for intimate luxury accommodation, but we love the Poetry Inn in Napa. With rooms named after the greats; Whitman, Stevenson, Dickinson, it's own private wine cellar, an affiliation with the Cliff Lede vineyards and gourmet three course breakfasts served daily, its safe to say you will never want to leave.
For a 14 night trip through California, convertible car hire, accommodation as detailed, international flights with BA, with a internal connection to San Diego, the price starts at £2,995 per person. If you would like to arrange a trip through California please call 0207 359 3938 or email.
