For those travellers to whom the traditional beach holiday does not appeal, Rio offers so much more!
With a combination of mountains, city and football, Rio is the beach holiday with a difference. What it lacks in tranquility and swaying palm trees it makes up for in entertainment and vibrancy. Copacabana, Ipanema and Leblon are only half the story here. If you can’t make it to Rio for the carnival in February, take in a match at the Maracana football stadium where the city’s party spirit is very much in evidence! Spend an afternoon at the Museum of Contemporary Art in nearby Niteroi or take the tram to Santa Teresa for a long lunch and some live music. Admire the views from the Sugarloaf or look down over Rio from the Corcovado with Christ the Redeemer.
Or simply relax in your deck chair on Ipanema Beach, caipirinha in hand, and watch the world go by…
