For years the “Golden Triangle” tour has been the quintessential north Indian excursion highlighting the best of Indian culture and history. However we recognise our guests like to get a bit off the beaten track which we aim to do with this 10 night itinerary which takes you beyond the traditional route of Delhi, Agra and Jaipur.
Begin your trip with a 2 night stay in Delhi – the capital city and home to some impressive sights such as the Jama Masjid Mosque and the Red Fort. In your two days your guide will introduce you to the best of Old and New Delhi and give you plenty of time to experience the best of the city’s shopping and thriving restaurant scene.
From here journey to Jaipur aboard the Jan Shatabdi express which will get you to Jaipur by mid morning. On arrival check in to the charming Dera Mandawa before enjoying an afternoon guided visit to the City Palace and the adjacent Jantar Mantar – an astronomical observatory which dates back to the Mughal period.
The following morning you will have the chance to visit the impressive Amber fort before continuing by road to Ranthambore.
Covering 400 square kilometres of virgin forest providing shelter to an amazing variety of flora and fauna, Ranthambore has one of the finest tiger habitats in the world and a 2 night stay at Sher Bagh will give you plenty of opportunity to spot one of these magnificent creatures and visit the thousand year old fort that sits at the top of a rocky outcrop in the middle of the forest.
An early morning train journey will take you to Bharatpur where you will be met and driven to Agra. Check in to the Gateway Hotel before enjoying an afternoon visit to Agra Fort followed by a sunset visit to the Taj Mahal – perhaps the most famous monument to love in the world.
After an optional sunrise visit to the Taj your car and driver will transfer you to the Chambal Safari Lodge which is at the heart of the Chambal Wildlife Sanctuary. Covering a 400km stretch of the Chambal and Yamuna Rivers the sanctuary provides protection to marsh crocodiles, eight species of turtle and over 290 species of birds. As well as a delight for wildlife enthusiasts, the Chambal Sanctuary has the ancient Bateshwar Temple Complex within its boundaries. During your time here you can take a river cruise to explore the Chambal Valley with a trained naturalist, visit the Bateshwar Temple Complex, take a jeep safari into remote and inaccessible areas of the reserve or take a camel safari along the river banks to see the Ater Fort.
If you are planning a visit in November then why not time it with the annual Bateshwar cattle fair. This is the 2nd largest cattle fair in India and brings thousands of pilgrims as well as traders - a colourful spectacle completely untouched by modern commercialism.
Your final day will see you catch the Shatabdi Express back to Delhi where you have an overnight stay near the airport before catching your flight back to UK.
This 10 night trip can be done from £2600 per person (based on 2 travelling) including flights, transportation, relevant guided sightseeing and accommodation. For more information or to obtain your own personalised itinerary please contact Matt either by email or by calling 020 7359 3938.
