Journey though Vietnam

Vietnam is an intriguing destination. At the crossroads of tradition and modernity, an eclectic mix of old and new, this country will reveal astonishing finds to every type of traveller.

Begin your journey in the country’s capital Hanoi one of Asia's most fascinating cities with its unique blend of western and oriental charm. Wander through the 36 streets in the Old Quarter where you can rummage for souvenirs and witness the artisans working on their specialty crafts. Pay homage to the late Ho Chi Minh at the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum and learn why Vietnam is such a culturally diverse country at the Museum of Ethnology. With more time to spare we suggest a visit to Tam Coc - a series of limestone rock formations jutting out from a sea of rice paddies that is one of the areas lesser visited sights. Spend 3 nights at the historic and prestigious Sofitel Legend Metropole and kick things off in colonial splendour.

From Hanoi it’s a scenic 3-hour drive through the Red River Delta to the famed Halong Bay where your overnight cruise on the luxury Jasmine junk will take you to mystical scenery of limestone islands, surrounded by colourful floating villages, jutting out of the emerald sea.

Return to Hanoi in time to board Livitrans; considered one of the most luxurious trains in Vietnam that will take you overnight to the imperial city of Hue. Visit the Forbidden City - a sprawling complex of palaces, temples, pavilions and galleries – before enjoying a romantic boat ride along the Perfume River. If you have an interest in the Vietnam War then Hue is a good base for a day trip out to the Demilitarised Zone, a buffer site between North and South Vietnam that saw intense fighting during the war. Spend 2 nights on the banks of the Perfume River at La Residence.

Continue by road to Hoi An; en route your guide and driver will take you over the beautiful Hai Van Pass - Vietnam's geographical and psychological boundary between north and south that often lies shrouded in clouds.
Despite the passing of 200 years and the ravages of weather and war, the centre of Hoi An remains much the same as it was in its heyday and can be easily explored on foot. Cross the Japanese covered bridge, stroll through the cultural halls, enjoy a traditional music performance or visit Hoi An’s tailors - renowned for their high workmanship and a great place to extend your wardrobe.  If, by now you are in need of a beach then, just a few kilometers out of town, Cua Dai’s golden sands provide a nice place to unwind over fresh seafood. Relax for 3 nights at the Victoria.

A short flight will take you to Ho Chi Minh; Vietnam’s largest city and undisputed commerce capital. It is a dynamic city yet the old charm lives on amongst the tree-lined boulevards, quaint wooden shops, old temples and colonial architecture. A tour of the Opera House, Le Loi Street, Reunification Palace, Notre Dame Cathedral and War Remnants Museum on a Vespa scooter provides an exciting introduction before taking a day trip out to the Cu Chi Tunnels. This network of 200km of tunnels, used by the Vietcong, offers a fascinating insight into life during the Vietnam War. Spend 2 nights at the Caravelle.

Round things off with a few days on the unsullied beaches of Phu Quoc, just a short flight south of the city, and treat yourself to a stay at the fabulous La Veranda for 3 nights.

A 14 night trip as listed, including accommodation, transportation, local guides and sightseeing, and international flights with Thai Airways starts from £2800 per person.
