Our special places
We design holidays tailored to your priorities. Please contact us to discuss any destination.
When we visit Italian properties that we hope to include in our Italian Portfolio there are several different priorities in our minds – will our clients like the owners, are the views outstanding, is the food special, how far away are the nearest cultural riches, and so on, but always to the fore is the question – would I want to come here with my children?
Some of the properties we feature are clearly more suited to adults, and some are happy to accommodate children but only in the school holidays, but there are several where the owners have realized that providing an environment where parents can totally relax knowing that their children will be safe, meeting other playmates, having fun in the pool, and not being looked at askance by tight lipped guests when their offspring throw a tantrum or a display of teenage histrionics, will have universal appeal.
A prime example is La Conchiglia on Italy's big toe. We have just booked some regular family clients there for the fourth year in a row so we know how well this small complex of villas works. Simple though it is, with spacious grounds, the choice of pool or beach, a restaurant and a guarantee of other children, we wish we could find more coastal properties like this. Of course the easiest way to guarantee other children that you know will get on with yours is to go on holiday with another family, and here a large villa with gardens, and a large pool can work brilliantly. Le Terrazze sleeping 10 near Todi in Umbria is a prime example and was at one time converted into two separate units by its architect owner in order to accommodate two families. While parents enjoy the sweeping views, children of various ages revert to playing out those unsophisticated dramas that spell happy families. For smaller families, Agriturismo Sant'Illuminato is a great option for a self catering apartment in a lovely region of Italy, close to the Umbrian/Tuscan border. There is a shared pool, protected by a fence, a lake for rowing and lovely views.
Way back in 1995 Real Holidays' owners took their children to La Casella, also in southern Umbria, and it's been a family favourite ever since. While this country estate has always been a delightful playground for families of all ages, with its pools, tennis court, and caring staff, the addition of ponies to the riding centre, mountain bikes and a host of other outdoor experiences for all ages - anyone for orienteering? explains why we continue to encourage families to stay here ten years later.
A new luxury resort great for families is Borgo Egnazia located in Puglia. This has a great selection of accommodation for families with interconnecting hotel rooms and suties, 1 and 2 bedroom townhouses and luxury three bedroom villas with private pools.
