Our Italian programme features properties ranging from luxury country hotels to agriturismo apartments with pools. They all share our preference for staying somewhere with character and charm, where there is a commitment to quality and service.
They range from restored farmhouses and Alberghi di Charme in the hilly countryside of Umbria, to family run bed and breakfasts in the unexplored Marche, from a unique renovated Cilento Palazzo and restored masserias in Puglia to a family friendly villagio on the Calabrian coast.
All our properties have been chosen so you have places of historical interest to explore. In Sicily, they provide different bases for sightseeing including two hotels on the relatively unknown western side. In Umbria, local towns such as Todi and Citta di Castello, and Ascoli Piceno in the Marche, will be enjoyed by everyone.
Last year saw us slipping across the Umbrian border to Tuscany to include a delightful estate of Val d’Orcia houses to which we have now added the manager’s own converted farmhouse. And a May visit to Puglia not only resulted in the lovely Borgo San Marco joining our collection of hotels there, but also to our being able to offer you a newly restored villa with pool called Villa Bella.
The setting of our properties is as important as the accommodation, and it was our clients’ appreciation this year of the dramatic landscape of inland and coastal Basilicata that led us to add the revived and refurbished Locanda delle Donne Monache in Maratea.
Finally, we know how important food is on holidays in Italy, and all our properties make the best of traditional cuisine, or are situated near good local restaurants and shops.
To make sure you have access to the abundance of riches in Italy's cities, we have included our favourite hotels in Rome, Florence, Naples, Venice and Palermo for a weekend break.
