Ca'Nigra Lagoon Resort, Venice
The Ca Nigra Lagoon Resort is situated on the Campo di San Simeon Grande, a lovely square with the 12th century San Simeon church.
The hotel is in a beautiful setting with gardens and rooms overlooking the Grand Canal and the small Rio Marin canal running along one side of this 17th century villa. This is an interesting area on the northern reaches of Santa Croce which, while quieter than the San Marco neighbourhood, has plenty of restaurants and shops and is still only a 20 minute walk, or an enjoyable vaparetto ride to the famous Piazza from the nearby water bus stop.
Having two lovely garden areas is an unusual treat in Venice. One of these leads down to the Grand Canal, and both have beautiful flowers, trees and ornamental features. There is a modern breakfast room cum bar area but it is the garden terrace overlooking to the Grand Canal that provides the perfect setting for breakfast or drinks in the summer months.
There is a particularly stylish entrance, a combination of glass, stainless steel and marble, with a wrought iron gate at the end with steps leading directly onto the canal. The rooms and common areas are an elegant mixture of antique furniture, richly coloured fabrics and traditional features such as lead paned windows, with contemporary designs. The rooms are both comfortable and luxurious, with king size beds and modern well-equipped bathrooms, the smaller ones with shower and others with whirlpool bath. Pick of the bedrooms is the Loggia Suite with its private terrace, while two 2 interconnecting suites are perfect for families. .
We would recommend the Ca Nigra very highly to those of you who like the idea of a luxurious and particularly stylish hotel in a slightly less well known but easily accessible area.
