Italy Family Holidays
Italy is the perfect country for a family holiday and not just because the Italians love children, which of course they do. Most of our Italian properties are family owned and the demands and misbehaviour of small children or teenagers are treated as normal, rather than just to be frowned at. Add activities to the mix, whether geared to the beach, or riding, cycling, playing tennis, and walking in the hills of Umbria and the Marche, and you can see why we don’t feel it is necessary to promote club style holidays through our Italian Portfolio. It is one country where making those compromises between what you want to do, and keeping the kids happy, becomes relatively easy, with wonderful art and food never more than a few kilometres from your child-friendly agriturismo or comfortable villa with pool. Nowhere is art and culture more accessible than in Italian cities, with each vying to be the most fun to be in with children. Rome may just win with obvious sites like the Trevi Fountain and the Colosseum, but Naples’ has the buzz, the pizza and ice-cream, Venice that almost theme park appeal, and all children enjoy a sense of the past as they step back in time to Florence’s Mediaeval and Renaissance worlds.
Whatever your plans are for an Italian family holiday we know which of our Portfolio properties guarantee meeting children the same ages as yours, where teenagers can stroll into the local town, or where they will be so exhausted after a day’s activity that they will sleep soundly while you discuss Berlusconi over another bottle of chilled Orvieto.

One of our most popular properties, the Palazzo Belmonte is an oasis of luxury hidden away on a glorious stretch of the Cilento coastline.
Gonzola is a large farmhouse built in the local stone, overgrown with roses, honeysuckle and ivy. The house overlooks wheat and sunflower fields and a small wood.
Montauto is a haven of tranquillity and serenity, set amid woods and fields, with spectacular views of the surrounding Tuscan countryside.

Baglio Fontanasalsa is a working agriturismo situated in the countryside 8km from Trapani in Western Sicily.
The Palazzo del Gastaldo was originally a fortified hamlet and has been exquisitely restored by its present owners and converted into six apartments.
Le Terrazze is a very attractive stone built casale with a separate cottage, originally forming part of a sixteenth century group of farm buildings grouped around a central stone paved piazza

La Casella is set in the midst of beautiful Umbrian countryside, 6km from the road, approximately 2 hours north of Rome. It is within easy reach of Orvieto whilst Assisi, Florence and Siena can be visited for the day.
Although Taormina has become popular with tourists, it retains a considerable charm as a result of its spectacular position, fine medieval buildings, classical amphitheatre, and shady orange and lemon groves.
In an enviable location in south eastern Sicily, the elegantly restored Torre Marabino offers the perfect base from which to explore this fascinating part of the island.
Located in the unspoilt countryside of northern Umbria, Borgo Il Poeta was formerly the site of one of the watch towers which stood along the Tuscan/Umbrian border. Today, the remnants of the 16th century tower and the hamlet surrounding it have been integrated into a collection of 6 elegant country houses.
Casale il Cerro is an independent villa with private pool, close to the Tenuta le Piane estate and owned by the same family.
Tenuta le Piane is located within the Sibillini Mountain National Park - nearly two million acres of spectacular mountain scenery with densely forested slopes. Above the tree line are picturesque pastures which come alive with flowers in the spring.
I Calanchi is an old agricultural estate which has been renovated to provide a comfortable, light, modern hotel in a spectacular position among olive groves and vineyards in the gently rolling hills of the southern Marche.
