The Green Heart of Italy
With seven protected natural areas including Monte Cucco, Monte Subasio and the more well known Monti Sibillini which it shares with neighbouring Le Marche, Umbria is a walker's delight.
The green heart of Italy of Umbria and inland Le Marche has some fantastic scenery and beautiful countryside, and is full of lovely walking trails.
We recommend combining a stay at Le Silve in Umbria with a week's self catering at Tenuta le Piane in Le Marche. Le Silve is a beautifully restored farmhouse located in the peaceful countryside close to Assisi and has been converted into a very comfortable hotel. It is surrounded by a national park which provides soem lovely walking terrain in natural parklands and for days spent at the hotel, there are two swimming pools and a tennis court, as well as some magnificent views.
Tenuta le Piane across the border into Le Marche is located within the Sibillini Mountain National Park and is a collection of 9 apartments and houses sleeping up to 7 which have been converted from old farm buildings. There are two swimming pools and various walking trails from the property.
