Combine the toe and the heel of Italy with this fly drive to a masseria in Puglia, an agriturismo in the Lucan Dolomites and a coastal hotel in Maratea.
This fly drive has been tried and tested by families and couples alike and combines the delights of Puglia and Basilicata.
We recommend you fly into Bari or Brindisi, pick up a car and then drive to the Borgo San Marco, a lovely masseria with pool, for a three night stay. This was originally built in the 15th century and is an excellent base for visiting towns such as Alborobello and Locorotondo. It is a fifteen minute drive from the beach and bicycles can be hired to explore the immediate area.
After three days enjoying Puglia, drive three hours to the Agriturismo di San Leo, located near the town of Potenza and on the edge of the spectacular Lucan Dolomites. We suggest three nights here enjoying the amazing food and the hospitality of the owners. There is also a large swimming pool and some interesting towns close by to visit. You can also visit the cave dwellings of Matera from here.
Drive a further two hours to the tiny stretch of Basilicatan coast for a final four nights at La Locanda delle Donne Monache. Located in the village of Maratea, the hotel is a former monastery and has been converted into a charming hotel with 27 rooms and suites. It has a pool with views over the rooftops of the village below. The hotel operates a free shuttle to the beach or you can discover this unexplored coastline by car.
At the end of your four days relaxation on the coast, you could head to either Naples or Lamezia for your flight back to London.
