La Foresteria Planeta Estate
Owned and run by the Planeta family who produce some of Sicily’s most well renowned wines, “La Foresteria” means “the home of the guest” which perfectly sums up the warm atmosphere at this beautiful hotel which opened its doors in September 2009.
The 14 elegant guest rooms are furnished in a refreshing country house style with warm Mediterranean colours. Each leads on to a terrace overlooking the vineyards with the sea sparkling in the distance.
There are many spacious lounges within La Foresteria where guests can relax and plenty of sunny terraces from which to admire the stunning views. However, most guests will be drawn to the infinity pool surrounded by fragrant herb-filled flowerbeds and with views towards the sea.
The surrounding countryside is surprisingly green and there are some fantastic sandy beaches to explore as well as the ancient archaeological sites of nearby Selinunte and further afield at Segesta and Agrigento. However, you may find it hard to tear yourself away from the peace and tranquillity of the hotel.
It goes without saying that food and wine are taken seriously here. La Foresteria’s beautiful kitchen serves up delicious Sicilian dishes using some of the Planeta family’s traditional recipes with mainly locally sourced ingredients. “Wine routes” of 3, 5 or 7 wines to match each course prove popular with guests as do the cookery courses which take place in the glass fronted kitchen during the day.
With its tranquil position and superb hospitality, La Foresteria works perfectly for a long weekend or as part of a longer itinerary with other parts of Sicily. Whichever option you choose, we are sure you will not be disappointed.
