Masseria Montelauro is set in a lovely rural location on the Salentine peninsula 2km from the historic port of Otranto with its narrow medieval lanes around the castle.
"What can we say? Virtually impossible to describe - it has to be experienced! We had the most brilliant weekend, we really didn't want to come back. 3 nights wasn't nearly long enough! The Masseria was very elegant - really lovely tasteful decor and incredibly well kept."
"Superb, highly recommended. Excellent service"
The masseria was built in 1878 and has been restored by its present owners, Elisabetta and her two daughters Caterina and Mercedes, to create a beautiful hotel which is both comfortable and elegant.
There are 29 bedrooms and suites, opening onto the gardens surrounding the pool. Both the ground and first floor rooms feel exceptionally light and spacious as a result of the vaulted ceilings in many of the rooms and the décor, which is a stylish combination of white inside with an attractive shade of pale blue woodwork outside. The rooms are all furnished differently with a mix of antique and contemporary furniture from Italy and further afield. The bathrooms are light and luxurious.
The outside area is particularly attractive and relaxing, with a lovely swimming pool set in gardens with flowers and olive and fruit trees and a shaded pergola to escape from the sun, as well as several other seating areas. One of the outbuildings has recently been converted into a small spa where guests can enjoy a massage or other treatment.
The restaurant specialises in local Salentine cuisine, cooked with fresh ingredients and served in the dining room with its vaulted ceiling or outside on the terrace. Alternatively you can enjoy eating at one of the seafood restaurants in Otranto.
Masseria Montelauro is ideally situated for exploring this area of Puglia with its sandy beaches and interesting towns such as Lecce and Galatina. In addition, horse riding, cycling and boat trips are all available close by.
Please note that Otranto town council has introduced a local tax which consists on €2 per person per night, for the first 7 days of stay for adults and children over 12 years. This is payable at the hotel.
