Villa Maria
In the charming town of Ravello on the Amalfi Coast, tucked away in a maze of steps and alleyways is the welcoming Villa Maria.
You will feel a bit alarmed as you navigate through a pedestrianised village square and squeeze down an impossibly small road to park at the Hotel Giordano, Villa Maria’s little sister, but this is Italy and it seems when driving, anything goes.
Once a country mansion, Villa Maria has the feel of staying in a very large home. The hotel's spacious rooms are all elegantly furnished and the views are all lovely either looking out to sea or over gardens and pleasant lemon or olive groves. The large terrace area is a beautiful place to sit out and enjoy a glass of wine, and sample food from the Villa’s renowned kitchen.
There are 23 rooms in total. Standard rooms have a French balcony or a small balcony with one or two chairs and garden or side sea views. Superior rooms have a distant sea view and some will accommodate an extra bed. Some superior rooms have a view over the Valle del Dragone on the north coast, and some superior rooms have a French balcony or terrace. The junior suite has a double bed, bathroom with Jacuzzi and shower, terrace and distant sea view.
Surrounding Villa Maria are terraced gardens where most of the vegetables are grown, and the food is so acclaimed that both Lloyd Grossman and Antonio Carluccio have focused on the food and filmed here. Villa Maria offers cookery classes so you can recreate the treats you taste at home for your friends.
