One would have to be remarkably philistine to ignore the Renaissance glories of the famous cities of Florence, Siena and Lucca, but until now we have been drawn only to the south-east of Tuscany and the lesser known gems of Pienza and Montepulciano and Etruscan Chiusi, and the classic 'English Patient' scenery of the Val d'Orcia. Within this instantly recognisable landscape, we have decided to work only with the very special 2000 acre estate of La Foce, where staying in one of the restored farmhouses we have selected allows you to experience the authentic charms of the region.
The estate of La Foce, where the three villas we feature are located, is situated on the hills overlooking the Val d'Orcia between Florence and Rome and near to several of the most beautiful renaissance and medieval towns in Italy. The landscape in which the three farmhouses lie, is a combination of woods, cultivated fields and olive groves, together with gardens designed by the English architect Cecil Pinsent in the 1920s.
Gonzola is a large farmhouse built in the local stone, overgrown with roses, honeysuckle and ivy. The house overlooks wheat and sunflower fields and a small wood.
Montauto is a haven of tranquillity and serenity, set amid woods and fields, with spectacular views of the surrounding Tuscan countryside.
This attractive yellow ochre farmhouse was built in the 1920s following a design by the English architect Cecil Pinsent and is the smallest of the villas we feature on the La Foce Estate.
Palazzo dal Borgo is an attractive four star hotel with 34 rooms, owned by the Cantini Zucconi family.
