Pieve di Comunaglia
Having already developed Borgo il Poeta and Casale de Lanci, Eugenio and Louise Grippo have raised their sights to the transformation of Comunaglia, a medieval hamlet dating back to 1050.
This labour of love is now complete, and we are offering two of the villas for renting through Real Holidays. These are L’Olivo, sleeping 6, and Ca’di Gatti, sleeping 4. Both houses have their own sleek-looking swimming pools with wonderful views, and from biomass energy to the careful selection of every fitting, it is clear that a great deal of care has been put into making sure that these 2 villas present a standard way above the norm.
Comunaglia consists of a collection of stone buildings sitting on a small hill surrounded by the typical rolling green countryside of Umbria. The outside space has been very creatively designed, with a mixture of paved open spaces, olive groves, grass areas, hillside vineyards and landscaped gardens. Low walls and paths create several different levels, providing a choice of outside seating areas with different aspects. A large communal swimming pool is set 200 metres from the hamlet for the use of all the owners and available for all those renting properties here and a tennis court near the pool will be in place by summer 2011.
The houses are beautifully restored with thick stone walls, terracotta tiled open beamed ceilings, and terracotta floors. Both are comfortably furnished with a mixture of antique and modern furniture.
L’Olivo is a lovely building with 3 spacious double/twin bedrooms, each with its own attractively tiled, and individually coloured, state of the art bathroom. On the 1st floor are two double bedrooms, one with a king size four-poster bed and en-suite bath with double basin, bath and separate shower, and a second which can be made up as twin or double with en suite bathroom with shower. The third double room is on the 2nd floor and has a king-size bed with its bathroom (with shower) on the 1st floor.
The ground floor is made up of an entrance hall, cloakroom, a large and comfortably furnished living room with open fire and an unusual arrangement of hexagonal tiles on the floor, and separate dining room. The kitchen is very well equipped with everything you could possibly need to practise your Italian cooking skills, a wide eye-level oven, 5 burner hob, large fridge/freezer with ice dispenser and dishwasher.
Ca’di Gatti is an equally attractive building set quietly on one side of the hamlet with the same facilities and comfortable furnishings, but here there are just two double bedrooms (one can be made up as a twin), both on the first floor, one with bathroom and jacuzzi bath, and the other with shower, both leading out onto a terrace. As with L’Olivo the entrance hall takes you through to the spacious sitting room with open fire and two sets of wood shuttered French windows opening onto a paved outside area. A separate dining room is adjacent to the kitchen with its oven, 5 burner hob, large fridge with ice dispenser, dishwasher and wood oven.
The houses are in landscaped gardens and have a choice of outside dining and sitting areas. L'Olivo’s outside stone walled dining courtyard is particularly attractive with its lovely awning. Both houses’ swimming pools are beautifully designed, with stone and marble surrounds. L’Olivo’s is larger, with two olive trees set in beds jutting into the water; Ca’di Gatti’s lies below the house and has an infinity edge and water features.
Comugnalia offers a different experience of Umbria, and one which we feel sure you will never forget. You could quite easily spend all your time here, but there are many famous artistic treasures all within easy reach, whether exploring northern Umbria or making forays into Tuscany.
