Il Coltorto
Knowing the professionalism and care that Benedetta demonstrates as manager at La Foce meant that we were excited to learn that she had been working on converting a former farmhouse in a very quiet and unspoilt setting near Gioiella on the Tuscan/Umbrian border.
This forgotten corner escapes the guide books and allows you to explore the local villages with their churches and narrow streets well away from the tour buses.
The original farmhouse had been split into two independent houses and Benedetta and her brother have taken three years to completely rebuild theirs. This has allowed them to create a more modern but sympathetic version of the original, adding and enlarging windows to make the most of the views of Lake Chiusi and the surrounding landscape. Next year they will have created two separate units, one on each floor, but for the moment they have just opened the one on the ground floor. This can sleep 6 with 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. While using traditional floor tiles and keeping the beamed ceilings, the interior design has a light and contemporary touch with a large and comfortably furnished sitting room and a well equipped kitchen. Adjacent to the entrance there is a stone paved and covered patio, perfect for al fresco meals, which looks across the garden with its shady corners and the large pool set among the landscaped herb bushes and olive trees.
A warm greeting and help is on hand from Benedetta’s parents who can help with your first shopping, and arrange for any cooking and extra cleaning on request.
A family taking Il Coltorto this year has a wonderful opportunity to take advantage of a villa and pool intended for two families.
