This renovated stone house is in Metochi, a charming village in the Pelion, possibly the most beautiful area in Greece, with its green chestnut forests, wonderful beaches and small mountain and sleepy beachside villages.
"Metochi was perfect and we loved it there"
Metochi is a very typical Greek mountain village situated in the hills above the attractive resort of Milina, with its fishing boats and busy waterfront restaurants and bars. The house is built in traditional Pelion style, on two floors with a tiled roof, and has a garden with terrace and seating area from which to take in the wonderful views of the Pagasitic gulf and the surrounding countryside.
The ground floor is tiled throughout and simply but tastefully furnished, with painted wooden shutters and white walls. There are two bedrooms on this floor; one double with shower and WC ensuite, and one twin with shower ensuite, plus a separate WC which also houses a washing machine. A staircase with wrought iron banister leads upstairs to a large open sitting and dining area, with a high wooden beamed ceiling, a natural stone wall, and a kitchen at one end. This room has shuttered windows on all sides, making it unusually light and airy, and there is often a refreshing breeze which can be appreciated from the comfortable day bed.
The simple style reflects the good taste of the English owners who have chosen to use wood typical of the Pelion area for shelving, seating and the large dining table. The kitchen area has an oven and hob, two fridges and a sink area.
Metochi is cooler than the villages at sea level because of its position, and it is renowned for its healthy air and climate, as well as for its refreshing mineral water, which can be collected from the village spring. Although the village is on a bus route and the local walks are magnificent, we recommend that you hire a car so that you can explore the delights of the Pelion, the unchanged landscape, traditional villages, and the great variety of beaches, dramatic on the Aegean side, and the more shallow and child friendly seas of the Pagasitic gulf. Nearby is the local market town of Arghalasti and the coastal villages of Lefokastron, Kalamos and Horto, or you may choose to explore the ancient villages of Tsangarada and Mouressi on the mountainous north east of the Peninsula, or drive to the remote village of Trikeri on the Pelion's southern tip to feast on grilled sardines as you look across the straits to Evia.
If you would like to combine your stay at Metochi with some walking in the Pelion, why not join our associates Walk Pelion. They offer 7 day group walks in the Spring and Autumn or we can arrange daily walks on an ad hoc basis. For more water based activity, how about going diving with Diving Pelion?
