Romantic Rajasthan

Avoid the chaos of Delhi and let us whisk you from the airport to Samode – a small village located an hour from Jaipur and home to the Samode Palace. Spend your first three nights at the palace, almost fairy-tale like in its beauty, which operates as a world class luxury hotel. Using this as your base we can take you on guided visits to Amber Fort, shopping excursions to Jaipur or for a romantic sunset elephant ride through the countryside, followed by candlelit dinner.

A short flight will then bring you to Jodhpur, home to the Meharangarh Fort which is arguably one of the most impressive fortifications in Rajasthan. Stay 2 nights at Raas which is right in the centre of the town and has wonderful views of the fort.  We would include a guided city tour but the more energetic might want to try their hand at the Flying Fox – a thrilling tour around the fort.

Next stop is Udaipur which is reached via a five hour drive via the Jain temple at Ranakpur. Udaipur has to be one of the most romantic places in India. Surrounded by the Araveli Hills and resplendent with lakes and onion domed palaces, its narrow lanes, strewn with stalls, carry the flavour of a heroic past. Stay at Devi Garh – an 18th century palace nestled in the hills just outside the city. Spend a day sightseeing in the city, enjoy a sunset boat ride on the lake or take in your surroundings on a camel or horse safari.

Time to head north for a stay at the delightful Shahpura Bagh – the ancestral home of the rulers of Shahpura. Surrounded by 250 small lakes this is a great place to relax for a couple of days and enjoy the good food and hospitality of your hosts.

India is not always synomynous with rest and relaxation but a stay at Ramathra Fort will really help you to unwind. Ramathra is part of a green farming belt in the Kalisil River valley. The Daang plateau, stretching east to the Chambal River valley and as far as Ranthambore to the south, is filled with gorges. Until recently, tigers roamed the area as did notorious bandits. Today, tigers are rare and the bandits only legendary, but visitors regularly see several varieties of deer, blue bulls, wolves, jackals, hyenas and, if lucky, a wild boar, bear or leopard. Included in your stay are jeep safari, excursions on the lake and the finest view from your bathtub you can possibly imagine!

After 12 nights on the road there is just time to fit in one more stop. With romance being the theme then this trip would not be complete without a visit to the Taj Mahal and an overnight at the Amarvilas. Included is a guided visit but what better way to finish your time in India than sitting on your balcony, gin and tonic in hand, watching the moon light reflect off the white marble whilst you reflect on your holiday!

A 13 night trip including return flights to Delhi, internal flights, accommodation as above, private transfers and guided sightseeing starts at £3950 per person. Please call 0207 359 3938 or email us and we will put together a tailormade trip of a lifetime.

If you like some beach time after your cultural trip, why not try the Andaman islands.
