The Mexican Wave
Mexico is an immensely diverse country with a rich cultural heritage and a fascinating history which, combined with fantastic beaches, makes it an ideal honeymoon destination.
On a holiday to Mexico, you can visit bustling colonial cities such as Merida, San Miguel de Allende and Oaxaca, the archaeological sites of Uxmal, Palenque and Chichen Itza, the Aztec ruins of Teotihuacan, and fantastic beaches near Tulum with its turquoise sea and fresh water cenotes. Mexico City is also worth a visit, even if it is just to experience the vastness of the city, but with the added attractions of Frida Khalo\'s house, the large National Anthropology Museum and Zocalo Square, the main square in the old part of Mexico City.
For a two week honeymoon in the Yucatan, you could fly to Cancun with British Airways and have your first few nights in beach hotel south of Cancun, near Tulum. Tulum has some ancient ruins overlooking the beach which is spectacular first thing in the morning. After your few days relaxation, it is time for some adventure. Head to Merida to see this fascinating city, the capital of the Yucatan, and stay for three nights. From here, you can visit Uxmal and Kabah, and Celestun from where you can see flamingos, and small towns such as Izamal, known as the "yellow city".
After Merida, head to Chichen Itza to visit this famous site. Stay overnight to take advantage of being able to visit the site after the crowds have departed so you can wander around in relative peace. Now, the culture is over, head back to the beach, or to the traffic free island of Holbox, for your last few days of relaxing, before head back home.
