Southern Italy Fly Drive

We recommend you allow us to build a southern Italian fly drive around some of our favourite coastal hotels.

The trip starts in Naples, Italy’s most chaotic and animated city, providing an exhilarating introduction to southern Italy before you collect your car to drive south to stay three nights in Ravello, the Amalfi Coast’s most precious jewel. You then continue south on the motorway to rejoin the small stretch of dramatic Basilicata coast at Maratea for several days’ relaxation. Finally you follow Calabria’s western coast southward to reach Tropea and the Calabrian Riviera for a spell of luxury before flying back from Lamezia,     

We suggest:-

Two nights on bed and breakfast at the small but luxurious Hotel Micalo in central Naples, with its contemporary design hidden behind a Palazzo exterior.  Naples is a fascinating city to visit and the Micalo is in a perfect position for exploring the city’s sites, shopping or visiting Pompeii or the islands of Capri and Ischia.

Three nights bed and breakfast in a superior sea view room at the romantic Hotel Villa Maria. Although not featured in our brochure this is a long time favourite with Real Holidays as comments from our clients attest, “Just to say what a great time David and I had at Villa Maria. The hotel is a real gem, the room was lovely - with its own little garden for quiet sunbathing- and the hotel staff really went out of their way for us”.

Four nights at the elegant Villa Cheta Elite in Aquafredda just 6km from the lovely town of Maratea. The views from the rooftop terrace of the coastline below the hotel are breathtaking and this is a lovely spot to watch the sunset. There is a small beach below the hotel and several other beaches are within an easy drive. 

Another two hours south along the main coastal road brings you to the stunning five star Hotel Panta Rei, 4km before the charming old town of Tropea. The sea here is lovely and clear and with the two swimming pools, restaurant and bar, you will not need to stray too far from the hotel. Four nights here on half board will provide a very comfortable end to your discovery of southern Italy.
