La Biancarda
La Biancarda is an eighteenth century farmhouse situated south of Ancona in the little known yet stunning Marche region. The Monte Conero beaches are only a short drive away.
The house, which is owned by the Florio family, is in a lovely setting with olive groves to one side and its own orchard to the rear, from which they produce their own jam. The accommodation consists of five individual bedrooms, all furnished with antiques from the Florio family.
Two of the rooms, on the ground floor, have en-suite bathrooms whilst the third has its own bathroom but not en-suite. The upper level, which is accessed either by a wrought iron spiral staircase from the living room, or by an external staircase, has two more bedrooms, one double and one twin. These rooms share a bathroom and can be curtained off, making them ideal for a family. One of the pleasures of a stay at La Biancarda is the abundant breakfast of fresh local produce served on the terrace.
There is a variety of choices available for dinner in the nearby towns of Numana and Sirolo, both of which are a ten minute drive away. La Biancarda is the perfect base from which to explore this area of Italy. There is something for everyone in the region; the Monte Conero National Park offers beautiful walks; unspoilt clean beaches are hidden along the dramatic coastline, and the picturesque bay at Portonovo provides one of the best places for swimming. Other outdoor activities in the area include golf, tennis and horseback riding.
For those interested in culture, medieval towns dot the surrounding countryside, and the Marche is renowned for its works of art. Music lovers can enjoy the two summer opera festivals in nearby Macareta and Pesaro. After a day of exploring, guests are able to relax in the first floor living room or library and there is also a billiard room for guests' use. You will always receive a warm welcome from Signora Florio, and her enthusiasm and knowledge of the region will ensure that you have an unforgettable stay.
