La Casella is set in the midst of beautiful Umbrian countryside, 6km from the road, approximately 2 hours north of Rome. It is within easy reach of Orvieto whilst Assisi, Florence and Siena can be visited for the day.
"La Casella is lovely, beautiful countryside, and very relaxing. They were very welcoming and went out of their way to help us, particularly with the children. The food was great and they did special menus for the children."
La Casella consists of 4 renovated farmhouses, housing 32 rooms, spread over the 1000 acre estate. La Quercia, the main building, where the restaurant, reception and some of the rooms are located, is probably the best choice for families with very young children, particularly as there are two sets of interconnecting rooms. San Gregorio is the furthest away from the main building and the views from its hilltop position are breathtaking. The remaining 2 farmhouses, La Terrazza and Le Noci, are a short walk from La Quercia. The rooms in La Terrazza are slightly more spacious than in Le Noci. All the rooms at La Casella have been refurbished with red and gold decor which is both stylish and extremely comfortable. The brick and terracotta floors ensure that the rooms keep wonderfully cool.
Whilst La Casella is an ideal base for exploring the surrounding area, there are plenty of activities available. There are 2 swimming pools, the main one is at La Quercia and there is a second smaller pool at San Gregorio, which has wonderful views over the valley. There is a tennis court available and mountain bike rental can be arranged through a local company. In addition there is a superb equestrian centre with tuition for all levels. For children aged between 4 and 10 years, lessons are given on ponies and there is a pony club which youngsters can join. They have also expanded their beauty centre, which offers treatments and massages by appointment.
Great importance is placed on the food at La Casella and the chefs pride themselves on providing local Umbrian dishes accompanied by an endless supply of Orvieto wines. The set dinner menu changes every day and meals are served at long tables in the restaurant or on the terrace in the warmer months, enabling guests to mix with one another. Children can be catered for in the early evening and vegetarians are well provided for.
La Casella is popular all year round; for families this is an ideal playground for younger children and for couples there is a chance to be together in a calm and beautiful environment.
The owners, Luciano and Simona Nenna, and their partner Tommaso, are constantly striving to improve the facilities, while Agneta, with day to day responsibility for the guests, is always on hand to make sure you are enjoying your stay.
