Hotel Villa Meligunis

The Hotel Villa Meligunis is just up the hill from the centre of the town of Lipari close to the port. Lipari is the largest and in our opinion the most interesting of the Aeolian Islands, and the town provides a very good base for exploring the rest of the island.

"The Meligunis was also lovely and they gave us a great room, one of the few with a view of the sea".

The town itself is totally unspoilt and very attractive, with narrow alleys, small piazzas and courtyards full of flowers, a great place to join the evening passeggiata or people watch from a café on the waterfront. There are also plenty of shops and restaurants serving delicious pasta, fish and local specialities.

Villa Meligunis is in the middle of the old fishermen's quarter, and is a lovely 18th century building in a beautiful courtyard with a fountain.

The building has been restored to offer 32 comfortable and elegant rooms and suites, some of which interconnect and most have views of the sea and port.

The restaurant, bar and swimming pool are on the rooftop terrace with a wonderful view of the sea and the port. In the summer months, music is played on the terrace and it is advisable to make reservations at the restaurant for dinner during this period.

The manager and owner, Manuela, takes great care of all her guests, and along with her staff, makes sure the hotel combines a friendly and professional approach. From the port there are trips every day to different beaches and islands. The boatmen are particularly friendly, and proud of their own and neighbouring islands such as Panarea and Stromboli. It is also possible to explore the island by road, either by hiring scooters or using the local bus service. The hotel also has a couple of bicycles which guests can hire.

The hotel staff will happily help to organise any excursions for you, as well as babysitting. For those who are keen walkers, they will also advise on the many trails which can be followed on the island. There is a small local beach 200 metres from the hotel, and a more comfortable one about 10 minutes' drive which the hotel provides a shuttle service to. It is also possible to go by boat to other beaches. All the beaches have pebbles rather than sand, and the sea is wonderfully clear for swimming.

Lipari is an ideal choice for those who would like somewhere beautiful, friendly and unspoilt with very few other English people, and Hotel Villa Meligunis supplies a high level of comfort and elegance from which to enjoy it.
