Mill House Retreat
The Mill House Retreat is a 300 year old mill set in beautiful countryside, near Castel Ritaldi, 13km from Spoleto, which has been restored and converted by a hospitable and friendly Swiss couple, Daniel and Marianne, into an exceptionally attractive country hotel.
The lovely mellow stone buildings are set in beautiful gardens with a brook and a variety of different flowers, ideal surroundings for the swimming pool, which some people are loath to leave throughout their stay. For those who do want to explore the area, Perugia, Todi, Assisi and Norcia are all within easy reach, and there are also different activities such as mountain biking, table tennis, horse riding and hiking either on site or nearby.
Marianne was previously the owner of a design shop in Switzerland, and this is reflected in the tastefulness of the interior of the hotel. Each of the 8 bedrooms and 3 suites is different, but all are attractively decorated and furnished in the colours typical of Umbria. All have terracotta tiled floors and excellent bathrooms, some with shower and some with bath. Some of the rooms are on two floors, with a loft style sleeping area, and some have a garden patio. All have telephone and internet points, and television if requested.
There is a particularly stylish lounge area where traditional Umbrian materials are mixed with upholstery fabrics in warm colours. The restaurant, which is only for residents, has an outside terrace in the midst of the gardens, and the food is outstanding. The chef will also give cookery lessons at guests' request. There are over 100 different wines in the cellar, many from Umbria and the surrounding regions, and there is also a small hotel shop selling the best of the local produce.
The Mill House Retreat is a perfect choice for those who want perfect tranquillity in comfortable, stylish surroundings with good food and many interesting places to visit nearby.
