One of our most popular properties, the Palazzo Belmonte is an oasis of luxury hidden away on a glorious stretch of the Cilento coastline.
"we absolutely LOVED the Palazzo Belmonte. I have been recommending it to people left right and centre. The atmosphere was lovely, it was so romantic and they upgraded us because of how much they like Real Holidays. The little town was fab"
Located in the small seaside town of Santa Maria di Castellabate, the Palazzo Belmonte is only 2 hours south of Naples and is so well located that day trips to the beautiful Amalfi coast, Pompeii and Herculaneum, or to the wonderfully preserved Greek temples at nearby Paestum, can easily be arranged.
The Palazzo Belmonte dates back to the 17th century and still belongs to the Belmonte family and the current Principe di Belmonte lives in a private wing. This unique and beautiful estate is made up of three main buildings. The historic Palazzo itself, the former overseer’s house next door, Edoardo’s, and finally, the more modern Villa Belmonte in the parkland at the rear of the estate which despite the name, operates on a hotel basis with double rooms located in 2 three floor buildings in the gardens.
In previous years we have particularly recommended the rooms in the Villa Belmonte for both couples and families wanting a more modern ambience. The buildings are located on the hillside above the restaurant with garden and sea views where you can relax on your balcony or terrace to watch the setting sun. The rooms are very bright and fresh and have been recently upgraded with improved bathrooms. White tiles and linen give them a wonderfully cool feel whilst the carefully selected prints add a touch of elegance.
Some of the rooms interconnect with twin rooms at the rear of the building, making them perfect for families. The end rooms on each block are particularly spacious and can easily accommodate a third bed in the second bedroom.
Until recently the accommodation in the main Palazzo, which is in four wings of the original structure, was made up of a number of quite different apartments and suites, some more suitable for families, and others for couples, but all having high ceilings and plenty of space, and the wonderful feeling of living within thick castle like walls only yards from a beach. There are still 4 of the larger apartments (2 of which have air conditioning) in the main Palazzo, with a miscellany of duplex rooms and suites as the improvements continue apace.
In 2007, the former apartments in Edoardo’s House were renovated into 7 new suites, all of a very high standard, light and contemporary in design yet utilising antique furniture. With just 2 rooms on each floor, Edoardo’s House offers some of the most private and luxurious accommodation and is particularly recommended for couples or groups of friends. No two suites are the same, ranging from one with 2 bathrooms which can interconnect with its neighbour, to the most romantic top floor suite with a private terrace and lovely views across the tiled roofs to the sea. Most have large living rooms with sofas and terraces to sit out on and all have large spacious bathrooms.
The Palazzo Belmonte is set in extensive parklands, where it is easy to find a quiet spot to sit and enjoy the tranquillity, surrounded by the bougainvillea, honeysuckle and jasmine. Alternatively, you may decide to stay by the large swimming pool. This has its own bar with light snacks served till 1am. Please note that clients are requested to observe the afternoon siesta hours and not use the pool with children during this time.
Lunch and dinner are both available at the outdoor Belvedere Restaurant with its enviable position overlooking the ‘Tirreno’ Sea. Should you prefer a change of scenery, there are several restaurants within walking distance in Santa Maria di Castellabate, or slightly further afield in neighbouring villages, easily reached by car or taxi.
For the energetic client, scuba courses can be arranged in nearby San Marco di Castellabate and there are some excellent wrecks in the local waters. Mountain bikes can be hired at the Palazzo and there are tennis courts in San Marco (it is advisable to bring your own equipment).
The Palazzo Belmonte is a wonderful choice for couples and families. Couples are well catered for as the position and atmosphere combine to offer a wonderfully romantic getaway. For children, cots and high chairs are pre bookable, special meal arrangements are available and babysitting can be arranged.
We suggest you self drive from Naples in order to explore the locality, but should you prefer not to, a private car with driver can be arranged by the Palazzo for transfers to and from Naples airport, railway stations and for excursions. Alternatively there are excellent rail connections from Naples or Rome to Salerno/Agropoli from where the Palazzo will arrange to have you collected.
It is the combination of elegance and a relaxed and informal atmosphere which has proved to be so successful, and which has enticed many of our clients back for repeat visits.
