La Posada del Torcal
Set on a hill and surrounded by countryside which alters with the seasons but is always spectacular, La Posada del Torcal offers an ideal opportunity for complete relaxation in idyllically peaceful surroundings, only 40 minutes from Malaga and very near the El Torcal National Park.
The hotel is a lovely Andalucian cortijo with a central courtyard, set in an 11 acre estate where there are many places to sit and enjoy a quiet drink. There are only eight rooms, all of which are different but spacious, and with magnificent views of either the garden and pool, or to the El Torcal National Park. Most of the rooms have either terrace or balcony.
The décor throughout the hotel is particularly attractive, with beautifully tiled floors, antique furniture and hand made ceramics. There are large brass and four poster beds and well equipped bathrooms, some with sunken bath, in all the rooms, as well as underfloor heating and some working fireplaces.
Breakfast and dinner are offered and meals at La Posada are a real pleasure, not only because of the imaginative food, carefully prepared from fresh local ingredients, but also because of the wonderful views from the terrace restaurant. Dinner is a table d’hote served informally, around a large communal dining table, either in the main dining room or outside on one of the terraces and although lunch is not served at the hotel, they will offer picnic lunches by prior arrangement. The staff, in our opinion the most important ingredient in any successful hotel, are exceptionally friendly and helpful.
The swimming pool at La Posada is heated so it is possible to swim all year round. There is also a heated outdoor Jacuzzi, gymnasium and sauna, a tennis court, mountain bikes and horse riding as well as wonderful walks from the hotel and in the surrounding area. Beauty treatments and aromatherapy massages are also available.
La Posada del Torcal is only 20 kms from the attractive market town of Antequera with its mediaeval Alcazaba but you may just choose to take off on foot on one of many walks from the hotel that allow you to discover the lovely countryside for yourself.
