Relais Agriturismo San Francesco
The Relais Agriturismo San Francesco is a wonderful 18th century manor house, the home of the Vatielli family, who decided to open the house to guests wanting to stay in this beautiful part of the Marche.
The house is midway between the two pretty medieval villages of Montalto delle Marche and Montedinove, both within walking distance. The house is also within easy reach by car of Ascoli Piceno and Fano, and the seaside towns of Grottamare and San Benedetto del Tronto.
The family are exceptionally charming and welcoming and to stay here feels more like visiting friends than staying in a hotel. Elisabetta, the eldest daughter, speaks good English and is extremely helpful in offering information about the area.
The house is set in woodland, on a hilltop, which means there are fantastic views towards Abruzzo and the coast on one side, and towards the Sibillini Mountains on the other. The house has 14 hectares of grounds, and guests are free to explore as they wish, either on foot or on bicycles provided by the family.
The house itself has been converted to a good standard with details such as the wooden arched doors, old terracotta floor tiles and beautiful bathrooms which makes the house a delight to stay in. Outside there are various seating areas and a large swimming pool.
The house has 3 en suite double rooms, and one suite consisting of a twin and a double room plus a shared bathroom and a terrace joining the two rooms. Close to the swimming pool is Casa Tennis which houses the largest of the double rooms and features a large fireplace for the cooler months, as well as a large modern bathroom. Steps lead up from the bedroom to a private terrace with views over the swimming pool and surrounding Marcheggiano hills.
The final 2 rooms are located in Casa Betta, a separate building in the grounds of the San Francesco. These rooms, with separate entrances, are bigger than those in the main building and are decorated in a more contemporary style. The first room has a large double bedroom and living room with a sofa bed. The second room is open plan with one double bed and a small single bed with a further pull out bed underneath it, which is only suitable for children. For larger groups or families, there is an additional twin room leading off from this room. Both rooms in Casa Betta have a fridge, television and private bathroom and these two rooms share a small garden area.
Breakfast is provided every day, and in addition Signora Vatielli will cook an evening meal with local produce and wine if you request it, which will be served outside in the summer months and by candlelight inside on cooler evenings.
