Our Favourite Asian Hideaway Hotels

Asia is all about the exploratory journey but it’s also known for its sublime beaches. Why not make time for an exotic beach break at the end of an itinerary to make the most of a gorgeous hotel hidden on a remote beach, tropical island or quiet corner of paradise. Here are some of our favourites.

Nay Palad, Siargao Island The Philipines

    Nay Palad, Siargao Island

    PHILIPPINES

An island hideaway in the Philippines, Siargao feels like Thailand thirty years ago. Jungly, remote and exquisitely beautiful, Nay Palad is found between ancient mangrove forests and a bright white beach, a short flight from Manila. Seclusion is Nay Palad’s calling card and Siargao’s remoteness means little tourist traffic, those who do make it this far are attracted by the legendary Cloud 9 barrel wave, as well as island hopping to other secret surf spots. At Nay Palad, life is calm and relaxed, with thatched villas that suit groups and families, some sleeping up to nine. The restaurant makes use of the ocean and the hotel’s farm and the thatched spa cabanas in the jungle await for soothing massages.

    Jimbaran Puri, A Belmond Hotel

    BALI

Encapsulating the very best of Bali, Jimbaran Puri is located on the stylish sands of Jimbaran Bay, just a short drive from the airport, making fly to flop all the easier. A few steps bring you to the sandy shoreline where cocktails await at the beach bar and the striking Javanese-stone pool is the perfect spot to chill. Clasped in the colourful tropical gardens are the Balinese-style cottages – serene spaces of traditional design paired with sunken tubs, private gardens and outdoor showers. Walking distance is a local fish market and a temple; a taxi ride away brings you to Uluwatu’s stunning clifftop temple or verdant Ubud for paddy fields and monkey spotting in the forest.

    Azerai Ke Ga Bay

    VIETNAM

A few hours’ drive east out of Ho Chi Minh City lies blissful beachside resort, Azerai Ke Ga Bay, situated on five kilometres of white sand shore. A classy sophistication characterises the hotel, with a white colonnaded structure housing the restaurant and bar, opening out onto a gorgeous infinity pool that fuses with the ocean panorama. Pavilions are cradled in the leafy gardens including the spoiling Pool Suites. All come with a contemporary interior design making use of muted tones and natural materials.

Nay Palad, Siargao Island The Philipines

    Paradee, Koh Samet

    THAILAND

Harking back to the days of beach huts and backpacking, secluded hotel Paradee on Koh Samet is a grown-up island paradise on a simply stunning beach, a world away from mass tourism yet only a three-hour drive and 15-minute speedboat from Bangkok. A relatively small island, you can experience both sunrise and sunset on Koh Samet and its off[1]radar, laid-back ambience means that relaxation is the order of the day alongside snorkelling and perhaps a Thai cookery class. Accommodation is found in thatched residences: choose from beachfront, nestled in the jungle or a secluded villa with pool.

Cielo Samui Boutique Hotel & Spa, Koh Samui

    THAILAND

Located on the tropical shores of Bophut Beach on Thailand’s east coast island Koh Samui, contemporary style hotel Cielo Samui offers tropical Thailand in a nutshell: a stunning beach, warm Thai hospitality, zingy Asian cuisine and wellness facilities to send you to bliss and back. A modern sanctuary, Cielo has a range of rooms to suit all travellers from the pared-back aesthetic of the suites sleeping two to the spacious three-bedroom villa with private pool. The beachfront restaurant KohCo is a laid-back affair offering spicy curries, steaks and snacks and when wellness beckons, head to the spa to indulge in treatments that benefit from moringa oil, grown on the hotel’s own farm.

    Royal Sands, Koh Rong,

    THAILAND

Meeting the sweet spot between a villa and a hotel, The Royal Sands is a collection of private houses, strung along a white sand beach on Cambodia’s Koh Rong Island. Aside from your lavish villa, the smart resort also has a spa, restaurant and a central lobby. Spend your days in an easy rhythm of pool, beach and spa as well as exploring the island by bicycle, snorkelling trips and kayaking. Many choose to simply revel in the privacy of their capacious villa, decorated in a cool contemporary aesthetic, coming with sea views and some with ten-metre swimming pools. The ideal spot to recover from a tour of Cambodia and Angkor Wat.
