First of all we must thank you for arranging a superb holiday for us in Puglia.
The first stay at Locorotondo was superb, you really felt part of the community, and the apartment was fantastic, literally 10 steps to a great pizzeria!! The staff were fantastic, our luggage taken by electronic ape to the apartment, and collected at the end of our stay. We discovered the vineyard at I Fastino and HAD to buy some wine for shipping home, great value and lovely people, and we may have bought a couple of bottles to enjoy back at the apartment, well we were on holiday. Whilst we were waiting for reception to open we had a feast at a small deli called Arco dei Tipici about 10 yards up the street, what a treat, fresh local cheese, bread, salami and wine, welcome to Puglia!
The second hotel in Lecce was again fantastic, it certainly has a wow factor, and Mantatelure would definitely be on our “must visit again” list, once again the staff were superb, and were full of great ideas and tips on the city and the surrounding area, where to eat, visit, and even where to maybe give a miss, we loved Lecce and could have spent a few more days idly wondering the streets.
Montelauro was a beautiful property, the grounds being an ideal place to chill with a glass of wine, and just relax. The food here was very good, with an excellent wine list, and again the staff were fantastic, full of ideas, help, advice on where to eat. We did find our room a little basic but it did the job, and the A/C was welcome at night!
What can you say about Matera, it is very clear why it is World Heritage site, the hotel is unique, but perhaps not quite as impressive as the website pictures make out, and perhaps in need of some TLC, the breakfasts here were very basic, but the coffee was to die for! The number of eating options in Matera is overwhelming, but everywhere we tried was fantastic.
Finally to Lama di Luna, wow, what a beautiful location, the rooms are rustic, but feel so right for the place. The food here is so very good, all from, where possible, the farm itself, their own wine and olive oil, bread baked there, we really enjoyed eating here but could only manage it for one night, so much food!! Again the staff were superb, from the chef who spoke less English than I do Italian (which led to a lot of pointing, rolling of eyes, and the word “WOW” kept cropping up!) to the owner who we had a great chat about wine production with.
So, did we enjoy our holiday? What do you think!!
Now where to next? We need to start planning our week in October!!
