Portugal is an incredibly diverse country, varying from the rivers and valleys of the north, and the dry plains of the Alentejo, to the well known beaches of the southern coast. Portugal remains one of the most popular summer holiday destinations among British travellers, and with good reason. It has a delightful capital city, wonderful beaches and it is excellent value for money compared to other western European holiday destinations.
We love the beaches of the south west Algarve and the Alentejo coast, particularly in the protected Vicentine Coast Natural Park where stretches of sandy beach are backed by forests and flower filled cliff tops. For a two centre summer holiday, Lisbon combines very well with the nearby Costa da Prata, or Silver Coast, just a 45 minute drive north of the capital. Here, visitors can enjoy both sheltered lagoons and surf beaches as well as historical towns such as the UNESCO-listed walled town of Obidos.
