  • Perfect 15 day family road trip in California from San Francisco down to Los Angeles

    Day 1

    Take a daytime flight to San Francisco, arriving just in time to head out to one of the great restaurants in the city that evening, perhaps in the famous Chinatown district.

    Overnight: San Francisco

    Day 2 

    On your second day, bike across the Golden Gate Bridge. For a more relaxing way to take in the sites take a private catamaran cruise of San Francisco bay where you’ll get a great view of the bridge and pass the famous Alcatraz.

    Day 3  

    Another full day of sightseeing ahead; see in the day at the brilliant Fisherman's Wharf. Packed with stalls selling food and souvenirs this is a panorama of sights, smells and sounds. Stroll down and take in the hubbub and make sure you stay for lunch. Fisherman’s Wharf boasts incredible food from bubbling cauldrons of crab to freshly made bread. 
    The Powell-Hyde Line cable cars take you across the city offering panoramic views of its most famous landmarks.

    Day 4 

    Collect your car and drive to Yosemite National Park starting with the spectacular Tioga Pass.

    Day 5-6 

    After a relaxing night it’s time to explore Yosemite National Park. Famous for its incredible landscape of waterfalls and granite peaks along with exceptional wildlife, this is a favourite for any American road trip. If you’re adventurous there are opportunities to go horse riding and river rafting.

    Something for everyone, whether it is beautiful views from Glacier Point, the redwood trees at Mariposa Grove or following one of the more strenuous hiking routes.

    Day 7

    Early start to drive back to the Pacific Coast at Carmel leaving on the southern Yosemite Highway (approx 321 kilometres).

    Day 8-9 

    Spend the morning taking in the charming town of Carmel - the perfect stop on the road. If you like shopping, Ocean Avenue in Downtown Carmel is lined with boutiques and stores. For something a bit more interactive, it’s all fun and games at The Game Gallery. Not just for the younger children; The Games Gallery is something a bit different and offers everything from family board games to 2 person strategy games. Stay here for 2 nights with a special day trip out to the Big Sur 48 kilometres south of Carmel.

    Day 10 

    Continue south to enjoy a few days California beach culture at pretty Santa Barbara with its palm-fringed beach and its Spanish style buildings. If you like a bit of history, visit the national historic landmark the Old Courthouse which boasts superb Spanish-Mediterranean architecture.

    Overnight: Santa Barbara

    Day 11 
    Another day in Santa Barbara where you are free to relax. With a laid-back attitude and some of the best wide beaches and wonderful long bike paths it is the ideal place to wind down. If you fancy keeping busy, a trip to the Santa Barbara Zoo is a great place to visit. Not too strenuous, it’s perfect to take a nice picnic while keeping everyone entertained.

    Day 12 

    Wind up your trip by driving down to Los Angeles to relax in style.

    Day 13-14 

    You’ve got 2 full days in sunny Los Angeles to sit back and soak up the sun in style. If you want to do some sightseeing, there is plenty here for all ages. Rub shoulders with the stars on the fantastic Hollywood Boulevard, stopping at TCL Theatre (Formally Grauman's Chinese Theatre) to see famous handprints. If the kids are getting restless you're spoilt for choice with what to go and see. Griffith Observatory and Planetarium will leave all age groups awestruck while the Los Angeles Children’s Museum is always a hit with the younger children. If you’ve got teenagers, why not consider doing a studio tour. The Warner Bros. VIP Tour gives a great insight into how a studio operates – and you never know who you might see.

    Day 15 

    Transfer to the airport for your return flight home.
