  • Southern Italy fly drive from the vibrant city of Naples to the beautiful beaches of Calabria

    Day 1

Fly into Naples, the Italy’s most chaotic and animated city, and transfer to your chosen hotel for 2 nights.

    Overnight: Naples

    Day 2

Take a guided tour of the city, essential for bringing the centro storico to life. Take in the sights of Royal Naples with its castles, opera house and cafés; visit the city’s impressive archaeological museum (essential if you plan to also visit Pompeii and Herculaneum) or relax in Naples’ charming botanical gardens. Enjoy authentic pizzas, strong coffee and take a stroll along the Lungomare for a classic Italian passeggiata.

    Overnight: Naples

    Day 3

An early start today as you collect your hire car and drive south to Herculaneum and then onwards to Pompeii. We can arrange a guide to make the most of your visit to these impressive sites or you can wander through the ancient streets at leisure taking in the remarkable remains of these once vibrant Roman towns.

From here you will drive to Positano on the Amalfi Coast. We suggest 3 nights in this delightful town which makes an excellent base for exploring the other beautiful towns and villages which cling to this most famous of Italian coastlines.

    Overnight: Positano

    Day 4-5

For those with nerves of steel, the narrow roads which make up the coastal drive along the Amalfi and up to the hilltop town of Ravello offer rewarding views of colourful towns tumbling down towards the sea (for the passenger at least!).

    Overnight: Positano

    Day 6

Today you will drive south to Basilicata. En route, you might enjoy stopping at Paestum to view the impressive Greek temples. Alternatively, if a break from history and culture is required, gourmands might enjoy a visit to a cheese-producer to see where the famed buffalo mozzarella comes from.

Your final stop today will be the delightful town of Maratea where you will be based for 3 nights. Backed by mountains and with an historical centre offering a selection of inviting bars and restaurants, Maratea offers a charming base for exploring the region.

    Overnight: Maratea

    Day 7-8

This small stretch of rocky Basilicatan coastline is a paradise for beachcombers and lovers of seafood restaurants. Explore the coves and beaches and little seaside towns which make this area such a delight to all who visit it.

    Overnight: Maratea

    Day 9

The final stop on your itinerary is the delightful town of Tropea in the little visited (by British at any rate) region of Calabria. Tropea, set on a cliff top with impressive sea views and an inviting beach below, offers a laid-back charm, ideal for a relaxing few days.

    Overnight: Tropea

    Day 10-12

The beaches of Calabria are the big draw here although the nearby fishing villages and seaside towns such as Pizzo and Scilla make for appealing days out. Inland, national parks with soaring peak and peaceful valleys might draw you inland but most visitors do not stray far from the captivating coastline.

    Overnight: Tropea

    Day 13

Today you will drive to Lamezia airport for your return flight.
