    This itinerary covers the highlights of the country while also including some unique and memorable active and cultural experiences. Cycle through ancient temples at Anuradhapura, learn to cook traditional Sri Lankan cuisine, and take a local train into tea country through stunning scenery. Enjoy a tented camping safari and spot leopard with expert guides before relaxing on the beautiful beaches of the south coast.  With ancient cities, beautiful and diverse landscapes, teeming wildlife parks and golden beaches it has something for everyone.

    Day 1

    You will be met upon arrival into Colombo and transferred by your private chauffeur guide to Kegalle, where you stay in a colonial planter’s bungalow set in a rubber and tea estate with lovely mountain views. Spend the day relaxing in the estate.

    Day 2

    In the morning explore the tea and rubber estate by foot or bicycle with a local guide, before visiting a nearby tea factory to learn about the processes.  Later, learn to cook your own Sri Lankan curry lunch with the resident chef.

    Day 3

    Proceed to the Cultural Triangle region, and visit the stunning cave temples of Dambulla. After checking into your hotel, travel to nearby Sigiriya Rock Fortress. Sigiriya Rock is nearly 200m high and foundations of the ancient citadel and colourful frescoes can be seen as you ascend the steep staircase to the summit. Those who reach the top are rewarded with stunning views over the water gardens to the jungle beyond.

    Day 4

    Visit The Medieval Capital of Polonnaruwa. Built alongside a large ancient artificial lake there are well-preserved ruins of palaces, bathing pools, stupas and exquisite rock sculptures of Buddha. In the afternoon visit Minneriya National Park by jeep. The central feature of the park is the ancient Minneriya Tank. During the dry season (June to September), this is an incredible place to observe the elephants who come to bathe and graze, as well as the huge flocks of birds that come to fish in the shallow waters.

    Day 5

    Today you travel north for a day excursion to the ancient city of Anuradhapura, and enjoy a guided cycle trip through the various archeological sites. You bike along flat terrain and can make stops along the way for pictures and to enjoy the scenery.

    Day 6

    Continue to Kandy, optional visits enroute to the spice plantations where cinnamon, pepper and nutmeg are produced. In the late afternoon visit the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic of Lord Buddha and witness the blessing ceremony as the monks perform their daily rituals.

    Day 7

    Take the train into tea country, a journey which offers stunning views as you wind past lush tea plantations, majestic peaks and rushing waterfalls. An everyday experience which also allows for lots of local interaction, you are met on arrival by your driver guide and continue to your hotel.

    Day 8

    Enjoy an early morning excursion to the beautiful Horton Plains, where you can go walking and spot birds and wildlife and take in the views from World's End. In the afternoon, visit a tea plantation.

    Day 9

    Today you journey south to Yala National Park, which is famed for having the highest leopard density in the world. Here you will stay in a tented camp with proper beds, hot showers and delicious meals. Enjoy an afternoon safari drives into the park with the chance of seeing leopards, sloth bears, elephants, peacocks and crocodiles.

    Enjoy morning and afternoon safaris into the park.

    Day 11

    Follow the palm fringed coastline to Galle, where you can stay within the fort or on one of the nearby beaches. Galle Fort is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the best preserved colonial sea fortress in Asia.

    Day 12-13

    Relax on the beaches and explore the fort. Get active and off the beaten track with a scenic guided cycling tour, as you ride along the shores of Koggala Lake, through spice plantations and rice paddies, and see real local life in traditional villages before finishing at beautiful Wijaya Beach. Other optional activities on offer include whale and dolphin watching from Mirissa or kayaking up the Gin Ganga River.

    Day 14

    Head to Colombo and enjoy an afternoon walking tour with a resident host and re-live the glory days of the Colombo Fort.

    Day 15

    Transfer to the airport for your departure flight.
