Day 1-5
Madagascar
Enigmatic Madagascar has always felt like Africa’s last frontier – largely underdeveloped and lightly touched by tourism, with very little road infrastructure. The fact that it broke off from India millions of years ago perhaps is the reason why its wildlife and nature, with communities infused by ritual taboos, make it so unique.
Spend a week on a rainforest-covered peninsula on Madagascar’s northeast coast to explore the encircling pristine wilderness. In the dense primordial forests, take guided walks to discover red ruffed lemurs and other rainforest residents. At sea, snorkel the reefs at Tooth Rock, watch pods of whales migrating or paddle through mangroves wrapped around volcanic rocks in a dugout canoe. Meet the Betsimisaraka people in a village school and during a traditional family Malagasy meal. Plant trees in a reforestation project, revel in sunset sailing and wander the forest at night. The magic of Madagascar is all around.
