Wild terrain, famed for leopard, wild dog and elephant, the South Luangwa is an inspired choice for those seeking untouched landscapes and incredible wildlife. In such a vast wilderness area with so few camps, it is easy to see why this reserve is the original home of walking safaris. The landscape with open riverbanks and mixed savannah is the perfect blend to allow safe but rewarding exploration on foot.
Day 1-3
Kuyenda Camp
Arrive to the sultry heat of southern Africa and the start of your wild bush adventure in Zambia. Be met by your safari team at Mfuwe airport and transfer to your camp enjoying a game drive though South Luangwa National Park as you head to Kuyenda Camp.
Rustic and charming and located away from the Luangwa River, The area’s salt pans and natural springs are well known for their magnetism of wildlife including big cats and wild dogs. Spend your time on enlightening early morning walking safaris with expert guides that bring every dusty print, dung beetle or crackle in the bush to life, and often lead to exceptional wildlife sightings. In the evenings, take a jeep safari to enjoy middle-of-nowhere sundowner drinks with mind-expanding views, looking out for nocturnal creatures, perhaps a leopard, as the African sun slips below the horizon.

Day 8-10
Chamilandu Camp
As dawn breaks, you’ll already be on the move, driving along the ebony treeline beside the Luangwa River and exploring the open flood plains lined with deep channels that leopards use for tactical stalking of their prey. Arrive at your final camp – Chamilandu – and enjoy lunch and a rest in your stilted chalet which affords incredible views across the Luangwa River and over the Chindeni Hills.
On a walking safari get to know the nuance of this wild and remote camp and find little surprises to elevate your experience – like a spontaneous pizza-making session for lunch in the bush. Equally, the camp’s riverside deck is the perfect place to spot action at the watering hole, while you enjoy being fed and watered with afternoon tea. Cherish a last sundowner as the sun sets on your Luangwa adventure and you contemplate your return journey home with a flight to Zambia’s capital Lusaka and onwards to London.
