Hotel Esplendido - Puerto Soller - Mallorca

Sublimely stylish, family-friendly hotel in the heart of picturesque Puerto Soller, on Mallorca’s north-west coast.

If you want a sunshine break with everything on your doorstep, there’s nowhere better than the Hotel Esplendido. This wonderfully revived 1950s hotel sits in the middle of Puerto Soller’s seafront promenade and is just a short stroll from sandy beaches and seafront restaurants. Laze by two rooftop pools, sip cocktails in the smart lounge-bar and tuck into fresh fish on the terrace. Perfect for both couples and families.

Built in 1954, Hotel Esplendido has been given a stylish makeover by its Scandinavian owners, and now combines urban cool with a vintage seaside feel.

    The lowdown

    • Combine With:

Palma’s architectural delights, from Gothic to Gaudi, and burgeoning food scene make it a worthwhile add-on before you head home.

    • Need to know:

It’s incredibly popular with in-the-know families, so book well in advance for summer.

    • Insider Tip:

Take a coastal cruise to Sa Foradada restaurant, only accessible by foot or water, for an exquisite seafood paella with sea views to match.

Spread over four floors, its 74 rooms mix retro furniture with contemporary colours to stunning effect. We heartily recommend a Sea View Room – where you can throw open your French windows and breathe in the salty air or watch sunset over the harbour. Some feature balconies and terraces. Located at the back of the hotel, Garden Rooms are more peaceful and better for families.

The terraced roof gardens are home to a pair of outdoor pools, one just for adults, where you can take a cooling dip to the sound of the waves breaking. Pine and olive trees provide welcome shade. Across a small bridge from here you’ll find a yoga and pilates studio, while further bliss is provided on the second-floor courtesy of the small yet splendid spa.

With the best location in town, there’s really no need for a car. Walk along the pedestrianised seafront to Sa Muleta lighthouse for sweeping views of the bay. Go hiking in the mountains, hire bikes for the day or take a boat ride along the coast. The tram to Soller stops right outside the hotel, from where you can catch the scenic wooden train to Palma for a day exploring the island’s capital.

“Head to the top floor lounge, where you can lose yourself in a good book or select some vintage vinyl to play on the hotel’s old record player.”
