Take a tropical fruit breakfast outside under swaying coconut trees, have a refreshing dip in the pool which overlooks the beach or head out onto the golden sands. Take heed of local advice as to swimming in the sea, as it can be rough here.
Experience a cookery course at refined older sister hotel Kahanda Kanda, where guests from KK Beach are welcome to stay for lunch or a drink, poolside. Galle makes a lovely afternoon excursion, to wander the narrow streets and browse artisan shops selling gem-flecked jewellery, handmade notebooks and Sri Lankan artwork. Join fellow locals on a stroll to the lighthouse and be rewarded by a flaming sunset.
Active types might like to cycle around tea plantations, stopping at a homestay for a rice and curry lunch. Beautifully curved and rimmed by coconut trees is nearby Marissa beach, which is perfect for swimming and surfing; and Weligama provides beginner-friendly beach breaks for amateur surfers.
