La Conchiglia - Capo Vaticano - Italy

La Conchiglia is located in southern Italy at Capo Vaticano, an area of Calabria known for its stunning coastline and safe beaches. From here, the more adventurous can explore this unknown corner of Italy.

Small and family-run, La Conchiglia is a collection of simple villas and apartments scattered throughout large grounds, from which a track leads down to a sandy beach.

The apartments are simple but the grounds are spacious and safe, making it perfect for children to let loose. Nearby is the wonderful sandy beach and a little further driving is the pretty town of Tropea which has excellent restaurants and good shopping.

    The lowdown

    • Perfect for

      Families with younger children.

    • Need to know

Accommodation is comfortable rather than luxurious but you have all you need for a family holiday. There is a restaurant onsite but for more choice charming Tropea is just a short drive away.

    • Insider tip

The apartments are the most spacious accommodation but for direct access to the spacious parkland we would recommend the parkland villas – but you will need to book early.

At La Conchiglia there is a range of accommodation including the Mediterranean-style white-washed villas which are dotted around gardens overflowing with Bougainville. Inside, villas have a double and a twin room, kitchen and bathroom, all designed in a simple yet practical way. For bigger groups we recommend Villa Karen which has 4 three-bedroom apartments with air conditioning.

You’ll find your day-to-day at La Conchiglia takes on an easy routine.  Breakfast in your villa or try the delicious buffet at the restaurant. Sunbathe by the pool or walk 5 minutes down to the white-sand beach, where warm, clear water awaits. Take out a canoe or motor boat or simply soak up the seaside panorama. For dinner self-cater with local ingredients from the nearest shops in the village of San Nicolo di Ricardi or try local Calabrian specialities like macaroni with pork, grilled swordfish or wood-fired pizzas at the restaurant with stunning views to Stromboli.

On another day you may prefer to be more active, playing tennis or taking a horse ride. Families might enjoy a cycle ride to explore the area. Alternatively, small harbour towns and secluded beaches are waiting to be discovered by those able to drag themselves away from the easy way of life at La Conchiglia.
