Matt's View

Great for short ski breaks and summer mountain holidays, I loved this small, owner-run Swiss chalet in the charming alpine hamlet of Les Crosets. An excellent restaurant and rooms with views of the Swiss Alps add to its appeal.

Come snow or sunshine, or perhaps both, L’Etable is a fabulous mountain getaway hotel, ideal for couples and families seeking a low key, family-run and friendly hotel in an understated location.

Welcome to the Mountains

Clasped to verdant slopes in the authentic alpine village of Les Crosets, Hotel L’Etable is the ultimate mountain retreat. Cocooned by wood, the hotel sits at 1,668-metres and its comfortable rooms, designed in a traditional alpine style, overlook lush valleys and jagged peaks. Families can choose from a spacious room with bunk beds or the Duplex Suite with open-plan sleeping area and a kitchen, dining room and terrace overlooking the Dents du Midi. Downstairs, the restaurant has a warm, welcoming atmosphere and serves up rustic mountain fare, Wagyu burgers and traditional cheese fondues. A small lounge with honesty bar makes a cosy spot to socialise. Although you won’t find luxe additions like saunas or hot tubs, L’Etable will win you over with its alpine charm and friendly, helpful service.

Alpine Adventures

Following the seasons of the mountain, there’s plenty of ways to get out and be active here, come snow or sun.  Summer is a delight, enjoy extensive hiking and biking through wildflower meadows dotted with bell-chiming cows, canyon through plunging waterfalls, traverse cliff faces on the via ferrrata or get up high for fabulous views using the ski lifts that stay open through summer. Mountain culture abounds in summer – lots of the alpine villages have local markets and festivals. Winter is all about skiing – you can ski in ski out from the hotel and access the vast Port des Soleils ski area with over 600km of pistes. The slopes are quiet and has runs for all abilities but it’s better suited to intermediates and advanced skiers. For the daring you have access to the “Swiss Wall” – reputed to be one of the most difficult runs in Europe.

Good to Know

Les Crosets is a hamlet with a small supermarket and a ski shop. There is very little to do in the evenings and is perfect for people that want peace and quiet.  Switzerland is notoriously expensive to eat out, and here in the Swiss Alps is no exception – consider taking half board at the hotel for better value.

What Matt Thinks

I really enjoyed staying at L’Etable for a fun ski long weekend, enjoying the upmarket ambience of the chic ski resort Portes de Soleil. Hotel L’Etable makes a great base especially as the restaurant is a local hangout – so you can soak up its lively atmosphere in the evening. There’s also opportunity for a twin- centre with Montreux or Lausanne to explore Lake Geneva.
