Perched on a hillside with an energising vantage point over the sweeping ocean, Sandcastle is an architectural marvel, created to mimic the shapes of nature with its arresting ‘termite nest’ structures which stand like sentinels across the sprawling, low-slung property.
Four ample bedrooms, a generous living area and plenty of space are decorated in smooth, adobe mud walls hung with a huge array of intriguing African art, making Sandcastle a truly original place to stay. Outside, thoughtfully designed courtyards and terraces make way for sensational sea views and an infinity pool. Staff look after all your meals and forays into nature – on land and sea.

You could spend hours simply gazing at each meticulously placed work of art and African artefact; equally outside, the mesmerizing ocean and coastal nature views will soothe you by the infinity pool or during a yoga session on the lawn. Better still, the capable team are on hand to help with excursions in the wild. With private access to the beach; walks, swims, surfing and snorkelling are in easy reach and the house has kayaks to borrow for a guided sea trek.
Further afield, enjoy a boat or fishing trip, or stay close to home for an afternoon of restorative spa treatments. Hiking makes the most of the house’s wild landscapes within a 275-hectare coastal forest reserve – spot antelope, zebras and numerous bird species; nearby is the Addo Elephant National Park. Come home full of the joys of the natural world and enjoy dining all together – savouring delicious chef-prepared meals.
