Wild and Remote
Sumba, Bali’s undeveloped little sister, is home to Nihi, a remote wilderness hotel that merges into the greenery-clad cliffs. Here, waves crash onto the dramatic rocky headland and haphazardly growing coconut trees shade pale sheets of sand. It’s an invigorating place to get-away-from-it-all; and although relaxing, it’s also the home to exciting activities and experiences.

Need to Know
This off-grid wilderness resort is hard to get to but well worth the effort. We recommend adding on a few days in Udud, Bali before or after or weave it into a longer itinerary around Indonesia. Call us to start planning.
Even getting to know the island feels like an adventure. Hike through the rugged countryside, paddy fields and traditional thatched villages or make a beeline for the spa – sheer luxury within breezy, open-sided casitas whose infinity pools overlook a dramatic cliff view. Treatments make use of local ingredients such as red rice, coconut oil and aloe vera.
The all-natural beach is a great spot for horse-riding, and galloping along at sunset will certainly blow out the cobwebs. There is excellent surfing, diving and paddle-boarding too. Back in your thatched residence, be soothed by the hypnotic ocean panorama from a copper bathtub on your veranda or relax in a cushion-clad bale by the private pool.
What’s even more special is Nihi’s commitment to the environment. 90% of staff are employed locally, and the Sumba Foundation builds school, well and clinics. This is a luxury hotel with heart and soul.
